Lower School

Greetings from Principal Sheri Grant

As Lower School Principal at SCS, I am blessed and honored to be a part of such a community. In the time I have been here, I have seen how Salisbury Christian School truly lives out its mandate to keep Christ preeminent in all things (Colossians 1:18). From academics to extracurricular activities, Jesus is Lord over all of SCS.

Here at Salisbury Christian School, our aim is to build resilient learners, passionate world changers, and steadfast followers of Jesus. From weekly chapels, to daily Bible lessons, to mentor groups, our students not only learn about Jesus, but are also given valuable opportunities to encounter Him in real and meaningful ways.

In the Lower School classrooms, you will find loving and inviting environments that support the success of each child. A strong foundation is laid for future learning in all subjects, with an emphasis on literacy instruction and a Biblical worldview in all content areas. Differentiated instruction is used in the classroom to help meet the needs of the students through frequent small group instruction. Students are engaged in a variety of ways in order to foster a lifelong love of learning. We strive to help our students become critical thinkers and independent learners as they learn foundational truths that will help them navigate the world they encounter. Our aim is Kingdom education as we prepare our students to be leaders and world changers for the glory of God!

Why Parents Choose SCS Lower School:

List of 6 items.

  • Love of Literacy

Recognizing that a positive outlook on reading can be one of the greatest indicators of future academic success, we endeavor to intentionally foster a love of literacy in our students. From integrating quality literature into all content areas to creating special reading events and incentives, we help students discover the simple joy of getting lost in a good book!
  • Progressively Traditional Learning

The academic offerings of the SCS Lower School are focused on developing in students the skills needed to navigate our ever-changing world, preparing them for a different future. However, this progressive approach is intentionally blended with many traditional hallmarks of elementary education, such as cursive handwriting and basic math fact memorization, to provide a solid foundation of core knowledge and skills.
  • Intentional Utilization of Technology

SCS Lower School students utilize technology on a daily basis in purposeful ways that support our curriculum. While being mindful of age-appropriate screen time, students in PreKindergarten and above are each provided with a personal device that is used to develop research skills, to support reading and math competency, and to foster student engagement.
  • S.T.E.A.M. Integration

S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics and represents a forward-thinking approach to 21st century education. From Lego building challenges to teaching the basic principles of coding, exposing students to skills that integrate the S.T.E.A.M. principles is one way we maintain student engagement and begin to develop the skill sets needed for future career success.
  • Daily Biblical Integration

All Salisbury Christian School students, from Infants to Grade 12, benefit from daily Bible classes, building a Biblical foundation for their faith and being mentored along their faith journey by qualified teachers. This focus on Jesus Christ does not stop with Bible class, however; SCS ensures that every class taught, from Science to Music, is presented from a Biblical, God-honoring perspective.
  • Joyful Learning Environment

Our goal for the SCS Lower School is that every student shows up to the classroom each morning excited for what is to come. Our students are known as individuals, and relationships are a priority – relationships between teachers and students, between students and their peers, and between SCS families. This focus on connection at Salisbury Christian School makes possible an environment of joy and community.

Kindergarten Age Eligibility

Age is a factor used to determine admission for students entering kindergarten, in order to maintain compliance with the Maryland State Department of Education for kindergarten readiness. Our experience has shown that children are generally more successful academically and socially throughout their educational career when these guidelines are followed.

Kindergarten: Age 5 by September 1 of current school year
